Fluorite with phantoms
Okorusu Mine, Otjiwarongo District, Namibia

This very unusual fluorite specimen from Namibia has wonderful light purple phantoms inside nearly achroic cubes. I bought this piece from Spirifer Minerals at the main show in Tucson quite a few years ago. They were the talk of the town that year as there was a limited supply of 40 or 50 pieces and Tom did a wonderful job displaying them with good backlighting. To me, they look like fanciful works of modern art. To show off the phantoms, these fluorites have been bead blasted on the back to thin them and let light through. No more of these specimens have been found since the original find. The largest crystal on the top left of this piece has a ding, but it is not distracting. The piece measures 10 x 6 x 2.5 cm.
