For some reason, I keep getting interesting Idaho specimens these days. This is a large thumbnail of ilvaite. It is 2.7 cm tall, 2.4 cm wide, and 2.2 deep. I\'m not sure what the whitish matrix is which envelopes the back of this specimen. It looks like the weathered hedenbergite I often saw associated with ilvaites from Dalnegorsk when I made 10 trips there in the 1990\'s. Nice ilvaite crystals of any size come from only a few places in the world. This is a great thumbnail from a great American locality.
