This is a striking specimen of brochantite. The brochantite occurs as dark, emerald green acicular crystals arranged in bunches. They reflect the light in a way that is almost chatoyant. Obviously, this specimen could be trimmed, but I do like the thin seems of crystals on the sides and back. I also don\'t like every mineral specimen trimmed to the point that they look like man made products. This piece is as came from the mine. The bottom, back, and both sides have thin crystals that were squeezed for space. The front apparently opened up into a small vein allowing the brochantite to develop more freely. I like the geology shown by this piece! Some of which would be lost if it were trimmed too tightly. The piece measures 10.5 x 7 x 4.8 cm. The borchantites are up to 2.5 cm long! One inch! This is huge for a mineral species which was formerly measured only in millimeters! These crystals are stout, not super fragile.
