A wonderful group of red garnets on green diopside form the famous quarry in Vermont. One garnet (at the top left) is contacted. Otherwise the piece is undamaged. The initial diopside group is made up of a myriad of tiny parallel growth crystals. A second generation of much larger diopsides jut off the top of the specimen at random angles. The color contrast is fantastic. This locality is an American classic, and pieces as good as this are almost never available. 5.6 x 4.7 x 4 cm with garnets to 0.9 cm.
