This large specimen of pyrite from China measures 12.5 x 11.2 x 5.3 cm: a small cabinet specimen. It has great luster and is very good shape despite a small problems on the corners. The crystal faces are all curved which adds motion to the specimen. In a few of the nooks and crannies you can see a bit of gray shale: this is just like the pyrite concretions found in Scoharie, New York. I first came across a couple of these pyrites labeled only as "Pyrite, China." I picked this specimen up from a dealer at Denver who had many broken pieces and this nearly perfect one. He told me that they are from Hubei, China. Not very specific, but better than just China! A very nice piece that stands proudly on its own.
