Item #10539
Salisbury Mine, Salisbury, Litchfield Co., Connecticut,

This is the largest specimen I have ever had from the Salisbury Iron Mines in Connecticut. I purchased it in an auction of my friend Dave Burgess's collection. The auction catalog said the piece was collected in the 1700's, spent some time in Harvard University's collection and also the collection of a man named Sherman. It is a great example of the stalactitic growth seen on some specimens. These specimens are rarely seen in such good shape, as the mine opened in 1732 and closed in 1923. The piece of history displays well from all sides and is a large cabinet specimen measuring 25 x 12.5 x 10 cm.
