Babbingtonite on Prehnite Newington, Connecticut, USA
The \"salt and pepper\" on top of this prehnite specimen is a coating of babingtonite and datolite. The unusual shape of the prehnite is because the prehnite is an epimorph of anyhydrite. I visited this construction site on route 15 several times a week for six months without finding a single specimen. But then I found some nice calcite crystals and a little prehnite. I kept looking and was eventually rewarded with one pocket of babingtonite on prehnite. The specimen is from that pocket and is 6 cm across and 3 cm tall.
