Quartz
Mundo Nuevo Mine, Huamachuco, La Libertad, Peru

It's "just" a quartz but somehow it is so aesthetic. When I made my first trip to Peru about 8 years ago, they were actively mining at Mundo Nuevo for specimens. They were searching mainly for hubnerites and fluorites. And tossing aside tons of clear quartz crystals. I asked about the quartz and eventually had 12 large drums shipped to my house!

Every now and then I open one and make up flats of crystals for the general public at the small mineral shows I do. And every now and again I come across a piece that is more than a "tourist rock." This piece is striking in the clarity of the quartz, the jaunty angles of the crystals, and the spacing of the crystals. It's measures 8 x 4 x 7 cm, with the tallest quartz about 3 cm tall. One milky crystal on the edfe is broken short, and a few more-or-less insignificant crystals are missing. Overall in great shape as you can see from the movie.

P.S. Only 2 barrels left!
