Calcite on Quartz with minor ???
Charcas, San Luis Potosi, Mexico

This wonderful brown calcite on drusy quartz has a secret: dozens of tiny acicular (needle-like) crystals of an unknown mineral up to 1 cm in length are hiding between its terminations. They are not quartz, and do not look to be selenite. I am really not sure what they are. Might you be the one to find out? Check out the close up photo to see what I am talking about.

It's hard to get nice, undamaged calcites from Mexico.
Most of the time they are, unfortunately, beat up. But this is a lovely piece with no damage and very sculptural. It measures 11 x 8 x 4.5 cm.
