Apatite on Microcline with Cookeite
Arondu, Skardu district, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan

This cabinet specimen of purple apatite on microcline is the nicest I have seen in many years. The apatites are undamaged and nicely scattered roughly diagonally across the matrix. The microcline is very sharp and covered with cookeite on almost all sides, indicating it broke off the wall of the pocket during formation. The piece measures 10 x 6.5 x 8 cm, and the largest apatite is about 1.3 cm across. I went to Pakistan six times to buy minerals and developed many contacts while I was there. I have been asking all of them for nice apatites for the past 10+ years...and this is perhaps the nicest I have been shown. It is certainly the nicest cabinet specimen.
