Obecnice, Pribram, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic

Freibergite is a rare silver mineral related to tetrahedrite and argentotennantite. I have not had this piece analyzed, but it was labelled as freibergite by a geologist who worked in the mine and the location is known for freibergites (see mindat). The largest crystal on this specimen is very well formed and uncommonly large, measuring around 6mm. It sits on a weathered matrix, surrounded by many smaller freibergite crystals and a druse of tiny quartzes. The overall size of the specimen 5 x 5 x 3 cm. This is a spectacular specimen of this rare species.
