Item #7589
$ 1,500
Gold crystals in matrix
Alleghany County, California

Finely crystallized, leafy gold fills voids in quartz/metal sulfide matrix. The bright golden color of the gold is obvious against the duller metallic pyrite: it easy to tell the two apart. The piece weighs 30.8 grams. There are 31 grams in an ounce of gold and as gold is so much heavier than either the quartz or pyrite, this piece contains well over a half ounce of gold. Found with a metal detector! Overall size 2.2 x 2.8 x 3.1 cm.
