Item #7560
$ 60
Magdalena District, Socorro County, New Mexico, USA

Allophane is unusual because it is a blue mineral that does not contain copper, just alumina, silica and water. It is amorphous, like opal, and can have a similar glassy to resinous luster and clarity with choncoidal fracture, as shown in this uncommon piece from a district more famous for smithsonite. Overall size 3.5 x 4.5 x 7 cm. Very unusual, and the vein goes most of the way through the rock.
