Apatite Cerro de Mercado, Durango, Mexico

I first thought that this aggregate of gemmy, undamaged apatites, each about 1 cm long, was a fake because every crystal has a perfect termination and a broken end. How can they grow like that in matrix? They did not, I learned that the specimen is rubble from the bottom of pockets where the crystals had all broken off the walls and were later naturally cemented together! This material was collected in 1994-5. Before then these crystals were typically sold loose, now you can obtain a bunch of them all at once.
