Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Mun. de Cananea, Sonora, Mexico

This spectacular group of three sharp, lustrous, deep blue azurites from Milpillas measures a little over 6.5 cm tall, 2.5 cm wide, and 2.5 cm deep. The large individual crystals are up to 1.8 cm on edge. The positioning of the three azurites one above the next --- and the way they wrap around the slender piece of matrix --- makes this a lively specimen. Unlike most of the pieces from the mine, this one is almost completely damage free: I can find only one small (sub-millimeter) ding...it is on the right side of the top crystal. A very sweet piece. I photograph using soft lights to show details...in strong light (sunlight) there are many electric blue highlights. Get these specimens from Milpillas while they are available: they will not last long (Remember Tsumeb? This is your chance to get that quality before the miners work through the oxidized zone and there are no more...).
