Rayas Mine, Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico

This is a very nice calcite from the famous Rayas silver mine in Guanajuato, Mexico. It just happened to break so that it stands by itself on one end. The calcites are opaque but very lustrous: they look somewhat like ivory. They are groups of scalenohedrons, nicely arranged in various positions and angles across the matrix. Exceptional for both its aesthetics and condition. A hand specimen measuring 8 x 7.5 x 3.5 cm. The tallest calcites is about 2.8 cm long.
